Lyle Dilley, former High Plains Music Camp director, was honored at the camp's faculty orchestra concert July 16. High Plains and Fort Hays State University staff, students and alumni celebrated Dilley's 90th birthday.
Dr. Jeff Jordan, director of bands, wrote a fanfare especially for the occasion, which was played as Dilley walked on and off stage. Dilley was presented with a quilt made of camp T-shirts from 1961 to the present, and he conducted the audience in singing "Happy Birthday."
Many of the audience members were former students who traveled from as far as Texas and Arizona to honor him.
Dilley served as director of bands at FHSU for many years and is one of five faculty members in the university's history to be inducted into the Kansas Music Educator's Association.
