HAYS, Kan. -- As an alternative spring break option, 23 Fort Hays State University students and Roy Spray, assistant professor of social work, volunteered with the Long-Term Flood Recovery Group and other non-profit organizations in Boulder, Colo.

The FHSU volunteers worked to clean up debris and restore houses from a flood and helped rebuild a house that was destroyed by fire.

FHSU volunteers were able to sit down with the affected families and listen to their stories.

"My heart is so full right now. Seeing these college kids volunteer their Spring Break to help those in need is worth more than words can describe," said Alyssa Steppe, co-student coordinator for Tigers In Service.

FHSU's Center for Civic Leadership and the Student Government Association sponsored the annual Tigers in Service Alternative Spring Break. Tigers In Service is a student-run program with the mission to promote and provide community service opportunities locally, nationally and globally.
