HAYS, Kan. -- Nathan Lang, sergeant in the Fort Hays State University Police Department, recently conducted training for new and returning university bicycle patrol officers. Among those participating were UPD veteran officers Kody Ellis and Josh Fleenor as well as UPD's newest member, Jonathan Rupp.
The course was conducted at the Center of Public Safety in Custer Hall. Over the span of three days, officers underwent 24 hours of combined classroom and practical skill training. Instruction focused on the various aspects of bicycle patrol, including the fundamentals of bicycle patrol, benefits of community policing and training at various on-campus locations.
Lang said the training will promote good community policing and good interactions with the public.
