More than 400 signed up for Family Day, Saturday, at FHSU

HAYS, Kan. -- By Friday morning, 430 people had signed up for Family Day -- Saturday, Sept. 17 - at Fort Hays State University.
The day is dedicated to welcoming the families of current students and engaging them in a day of activities, culminating in a Fort Hays State University football game Saturday night.
The schedule for this year's Family Day:
8 a.m.: Check-in in the Memorial Union's Sunset Lounge atrium
Families will pick up nametags, shirts, Family Day schedule, and tickets for the brunch and tailgate.
8:30 to 11 a.m.: Fishing Derby, hosted by Intramurals, next to Hammond Hall
Gear and bait available for families to fish for catfish. Fish will be cleaned and filleted for participants.
10:30 a.m. to noon: Opening brunch in the union's Fort Hays Ballroom
1 to 3 p.m.: MakerSpace Open House in the lower level of Forsyth Library
Families will learn soldering with simple soldering kits, build rockets, learn about 3D printing and how to operate the NOA robot. They will also get to see all of the fun toys available in MakerSpace.
1 to 3 p.m.: The Astounding Race on the Quad
Sponsored by the Global Leadership Project and fashioned after the TV show "The Amazing Race," families can follow clues and learn about other countries and global issues.
3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Faculty Meet & Greet Ice Cream Social on the union patio
Students and families can enjoy make-your-own ice cream sundaes while meeting administrators, faculty and staff of FHSU.
4:15 to 5:15 p.m.: Free time
5:30 to 6:45 p.m.: Tiger Tailgate, Lewis Field Stadium (big white tent on east side)
Students and families can join all chapters of the Greek community for BBQ and drinks before the Tigers take on Central Oklahoma State.
6 p.m.: Student Paint Up at Lewis Field Stadium
Students and families can have their faces painted to support their fellow Tigers, sponsored by the University Activities Board.
7 p.m.: Football -- Tigers vs.Central Oklahoma
