HAYS, Kan. - Gold Cord at Fort Hays State University was among the outstanding Mortar Board chapters to be recognized with a Silver Torch Award at the 2016 Mortar Board National Conference.

The Silver Torch Award recognizes chapters that make significant accomplishments in scholarship, leadership and meaningful service to their institutions, in addition to fulfilling all national criteria and deadlines.

Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors. Since the organization was founded in 1918, more than a quarter of a million members have been initiated at 231 chartered chapters across the nation. 

Mortar Board provides its members with opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities, and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.
