The Global Leadership Project in conjunction with the Center for Civic Leadership, Tigers in Service, Forsyth Library, and Numana at Fort Hays State University brought together nearly 260 volunteers for the sixth annual SWIPE Out Hunger event.

Numana, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity formed in August 2008, as an international hunger relief organization.

The event is a food donation initiative aimed at allowing students to take part in helping others in need while having fun and working as a team. Volunteers packed beans, rice, a vitamin packet, as well as other ingredients that are necessary to help with acute hunger.

SWIPE Out Hunger allowed the energetic volunteers to work in 10 stations of 12 packaging food. Volunteers surpassed their goal of 32,000 meals and packed more than 35,000.

After the recent devastation caused by hurricane Matthew in Haiti, a majority of the food packaged will be donated to help those affected in the small country.

Food will also be dispersed here in the U.S. in impoverished communities.
