Fort Hays State University will begin its 15th annual celebration of International Education Week starting Monday, Nov. 14.

International Education Week, celebrated in more than 100 countries, began in 2000 with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the U.S. Department of State as a joint initiative to sponsor programs to prepare Americans to be world ready and to interest future leaders to study, learn and have exchange experience.

"Our goal is to support and promote global awareness and to provide exchange experiences to all students in our small community," said Marnie Kohl, administrative associate in International Student affairs and lead organizer of IEW.

Monday, Nov. 14
9 a.m. International Education Week Proclamation Signing in Sunset Lounge Atrium of the Memorial Union.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. International Education Week resource table and buttons available in the union.
3:30 p.m. Geosciences Travelogue Presents Max Maximov in Tomanek Hall, room 124.
3:30 p.m. Roundtable Discussion on faculty exchange to Northwest University for Nationalities in Stouffer Lounge of Memorial Union.

Tuesday, Nov. 15
3 p.m. Association of International Educator's Sen. Paul Simon Campus Internationalization Presidential Panel Webcast.
6 p.m. Modern Language Presents: Hispanic Film Festival in Albertson Hall, room 169.

Wednesday, Nov. 16
10 a.m. Study Abroad and Internship Opportunities with Universitá Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, Italy, in the union's Trails Room.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Get World Ready Study Abroad Fair in the union's Sunset Lounge.
11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Faculty-Driven Presentations on Collaborative On-line International Learning and Internationalization in the union's Pioneer Room.
6:30 p.m. Modern Languages Presents: Salsa Dance Lessons in the Cunningham Hall Dance Room.
7 p.m. China Summer Study Abroad Presentation with Lucas Warren, senior art major, Ainsley Smith, junior communication sciences and disorders major, and Ricky Zamora, junior international business major, in the union's Cody Commons.

Thursday, Nov. 17
3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Follow Your Path panel discussion in the union's Trails Room.
4 p.m. International Student Exchange Program, National Student Exchange, and faculty-led programs information meeting in the union's Pioneer Room.

Internationally themed foods will be offered each day in the Memorial Union.

"Students can show their support and get involved by attending any of the events or viewing the displays in the Memorial Union and Forsyth Library," said Kohl.

"International Education Week is a great way for all of us to engage in this interconnected world, to participate in discussions with others about our culture, and to celebrate each other," she said.

Throughout the week, Tiger Tots will have international readings and activities during story time; the FHSU community will give classroom presentations in area schools; Memorial Union will display international flags and feature an exhibit and an Earth Live screen; residence halls will watch internationally themed movies; and Forsyth Library will display global literature and an International Reader poster.

The week is sponsored by Internationalization and Global Partnerships; International Student Union; Memorial Union; Chartwells; Modern Languages; the Department of Geosciences; Student Residential Life; Forsyth Library; and the Office of the Provost.
