Two students and the FHSU Hispanic College Institute recently received awards focused on their achievements.

John Gettemeyer, a second-year Fort Hays State University graduate student from St. Peters, Mo., and the HCI have been recognized as 2017 Commission Award recipients from the American College Personnel Association Commission.

Haydee Reyes, Olathe junior, received the 2017 National Outstanding Undergraduate or Graduate Student Award from the Association of Higher Education Parent and Family Programs Professionals.

Gettemeyer, a graduate assistant for extended orientation and transition initiatives in the Office of Transition and Student Conduct, was recognized for his significant contributions to the academic study of admissions, orientation and first-year experience through papers, research and assessment projects and publication. This award is presented to a full-time graduate student or graduate assistant who is studying at the master's or doctoral degree level in any program.

The HCI was selected as the 2017 National Outstanding Admissions, Orientation and First Year Experience Program and Project of the Year Award recipient. This award recognizes an outstanding program, project or initiative developed by an institution for its campus community.

The awards will be presented to Brett Bruner, director of transition and student conduct and 2016 HCI director, at the 2017 ACPA annual convention on March 27 in Columbus, Ohio.

Reyes, student director for the 2017 Tiger Impact Fall Orientation Weekend, was recognized for her impact on the parent and family program at FHSU.
