Seven Fort Hays State University scholars in the Voss Advanced Leadership Undergraduate Experience (VALUE) attended the recent You. Lead. Now. conference in Wichita.
The conference, hosted by the Kansas Leadership Center, reviewed the KLC's four competencies of diagnosing the situation, managing one's self, energizing others, and skillfully intervening, ultimately allowing the student scholars to challenge their current practices of leadership.
"By practicing their skills in real-time and participating in peer group processes, the VALUE Scholars developed plans for overcoming their leadership challenges within their VALUE projects," said Kaley Klaus, director of student leadership development and assessment and an instructor of leadership studies.
FHSU scholars who attended the conference were: Rachel Guillot, Salina junior; Taylor Hanus, Salina junior; Jarid Malick, Dodge City junior; Marisol Regalado, Liberal senior; Megan Rust, Leavenworth junior; Brianna Schuck, Harvard, Neb., senior; and Kaylie Towles, El Dorado senior.
"This experience forced us to think outside of ourselves and look deeper into the actual root of the problem," said Schuck.
"The self-reflection done within the peer consultation process was of great benefit, as it helped me understand that I had already accomplished so much within my project that I failed to acknowledge," she said.
