HAYS, Kan. -- Students from the southwestern Kansas region were recognized at a recent Student Recognition Program in Dodge City for the scholarships they have been awarded from Fort Hays State University for the 2017-18 academic year.

The annual Dodge City SRP primarily serves students from Ness City and students from Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Kiowa and Meade counties. Students from outside the primary area, including students from Oklahoma, are also welcome.

Scholarships awarded at the SRPs include Fort Hays State's four ACT-based scholarships: the $3,500 Presidential Award of Distinction, the $2,000 University Scholar Award, the $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award, and the $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Academic Opportunity Grants of $2,000 or $4,000 are also funded by Fort Hays State.

All are awarded only to incoming freshmen enrolling in college for the first time, but each is renewable provided students maintain the minimum required academic standing.

The renewable $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship is available for transfer students, as is a $1,000 non-renewable transfer scholarship. One-time $900 or $500 Academic Opportunity Awards are given to scholars by individual academic departments.

Each SRP event also features four scholarship drawings, two for $600 FHSU University Bookstore scholarships, one for a $400 FHSU Student Recognition Program Scholarship, and another for an iPad.

Students are arranged alphabetically by high school or junior college with their parents and intended majors. Cutlines are provided for the photos.

Ashland High School
Lezah Fox, Ashland (67831), a 2017 Ashland High School graduate, was awarded a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance. Fox, daughter of William and Debra Fox, Ashland, plans to major in health and human performance.

Dodge City Community College
Luke Avila, Goodland (67735), a 2016 Goodland High School graduate and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship. Avila, son of David and Charlene Avila, Goodland, plans to major in finance.

Chelsi Baker, Spearville (67876), a 2015 Spearville High School and 21st Century Learning Academy graduate and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship. Baker, daughter of Buckley and Nadine Baker, Spearville, plans to major in radiologic technology.

Mark Hageman, Mount Hope (67108), a 2016 Andale High School graduate and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship. Hageman, son of Roger and Joey Hageman, Mount Hope, plans to major in agriculture.

Ashley Millershaski, Dodge City (67801), a 2014 Dodge City High School graduate student and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship. Millershaski, daughter of Raymond and Tracy Millershaski, Dodge City, plans to major in accounting.

Ricardo Sanchez, Dodge City (67801), a 2015 Dodge City High School graduate and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship, and he won a drawing for one of two $600 FHSU University Bookstore scholarships. Sanchez, son of Leopoldo and Julia Sanchez, Dodge City, plans to major in marketing.

Jordan Seabolt, Cimarron (67835), a 2015 Cimarron High School graduate and a Dodge City Community College transfer student, was awarded a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Scholarship, and she won the drawing for a $400 FHSU Student Recognition Program Scholarship. Seabolt, daughter of Ashley and Mardie Seabolt, Cimarron, plans to major in psychology.

Jake Montgomery, Dodge City (67801), a 2017 Dodge City High School graduate, was awarded a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in justice studies. Montgomery, son of Brian and Julianna Montgomery, Dodge City, plans to major in criminal justice.
