Antique cast iron bell to be dedicated at FHSU's Plymouth Schoolhouse

HAYS, Kan. ¬- Fort Hays State University will celebrate a unique addition to its Plymouth Schoolhouse - an iron bell that was cast more than 100 years ago - at a dedication at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14. The dedication will take place in front of the Plymouth Schoolhouse, which is located just south of Sheridan Hall on the FHSU campus.
Benefactors who will be recognized at the dedication include:
• Jane Koetkemeyer Kohtz, Hays, a 1975 FHSU graduate, who donated the bell.
• The family of Elaine Driscoll, a 1970 FHSU graduate and a longtime Fort Hays State employee. She passed away in 2015, and donations from her memorial fund were used to build the base for the bell.
• Dr. Paul Adams, Anschutz Professor of Education and dean of the College of Education.
• Joe Chretien, associate professor of applied technology at FHSU, for refurbishing the bell and designing the base.
• FHSU's Physical Plant for building the base.
• DeLoyd Sander for his masonry work.
Children from FHSU's Tiger Tots Nurtury Center will sing the national anthem.
The public is invited. Refreshments will be provided inside the Plymouth Schoolhouse following the dedication.
