HAYS, Kan. - Fall semesters on college campuses are always times of new beginnings. That phrase took on a new meaning at Fort Hays State University as the university celebrates the dedication of four new facilities at the beginning of the fall semester 2017.

FHSU dedicated its new track and field complex, featuring the Alex Francis Track, in August.
The second dedication is set for 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Victor E. Village, a 406-bed residence hall. The public is invited.

Victor E. Village replaces Wiest Hall, which was built in 1971 and is currently undergoing demolition.

Construction of the 110,000-square-foot, four-story Victor E. Tiger building began in January 2016, and the facility was completed last month in time for move-in day for the 2017-18 school year.

The residence hall features both single- and double-occupancy rooms, with a central lounge in each community. Each level includes study rooms and pod-style bathrooms.

Following the demolition of Wiest Hall, which began this week, construction will begin on a 300-space parking lot, with completion set for next spring.

The third and fourth dedications of new facilities on the FHSU campus are scheduled for a day apart on Homecoming weekend. The Center for Applied Technology will be dedicated on Friday, Oct. 6, followed by the dedication of Tiger Village, another residence hall, on Saturday, Oct. 7.
