2017 MakerSpace holiday ornament competition open to the public

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State University’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute is sponsoring a MakerSpace holiday ornament competition, open to the public, university faculty, staff and students.
MakerSpace, an area in Forsyth Library for any FHSU student or Hays community member to build, tinker and explore projects and ideas within the science, technology, engineering and mathematic fields, is located in Forsyth Library, room 062, on the university’s campus.
MakerSpace hours are listed by day.
Sunday: closed
Monday: 1:30 to 7 p.m.
Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday: 1:30 to 7 p.m.
Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday: 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday: 12 to 4:30 p.m.
MakerSpace will be closed Nov. 17 through Nov. 26.
Rules for the competition are:
1. Ornament must fit in a 4.5-inch box
2. Must be school appropriate
3. No pre-made designs
4. Participants may bring their own materials or use MakerSpace supplies
Ornaments are judged on creativity and originality and must be turned in to a MakerSpace staff member by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.
There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes.
