FHSU earns eight rankings in October

HAYS, Kan. – Programs offered through the Fort Hays State University Virtual College received eight recognitions, including a No. 1 ranking, from various agencies as among the best and most affordable online programs offered by U.S. colleges and universities.
Distance education at Fort Hays State began in 1911 when faculty voted to offer correspondence courses free so that one-room school teachers across western Kansas could afford to gain the education required to teach. The Correspondence Department was created then evolved continuously with changing technology and culture until, in 1997, the Department of Continuing Education and Instructional Technology became the FHSU Virtual College.
No. 1, 50 Best Online Master of Liberal Studies Degree Programs 2018
FHSU’s Master of Liberal Studies earned the No. 1 spot on MastersProgramsGuide’s list based on its affordability, flexibility and wide variety of concentrations.
FHSU offers 11 concentrations through the Virtual College, including art, corporate communications, global studies, literary arts, health sciences, management information systems, public administration and political science.
The program requires 31 credit hours, including 10 hours of core classes, 18 hours of concentration classes and three hours of culminating experience.

No. 15, 50 Best Online Master of Special Education Degree Programs 2018
In addition to the No. 1 ranking, MasterProgramsGuide also recognized FHSU for one of the 50 best special education programs in the nation.
FHSU’s Master of Science in high-incidence special education is a 36-credit-hour program available entirely online. Courses focus on the practical needs and challenges faced by educators of special education students.

No. 4, Affordable Online Master’s in Nursing Programs
AffordableColleges recognized FHSU’s Master of Science in nursing administration for its affordability, accessibility and graduation rate. The website specifically praised FHSU for its accessibility to military members and their families.
The 34 credit-hour program prepares students for advanced nursing specialty roles and includes courses such as complexity in health care, administrative management in health care organizations, developing nursing theories and research in nursing.

FHSU earned the No. 5 spot on CollegeChoice’s list of most affordable online graduate schools.
FHSU offers 16 master’s degree programs through the Virtual College, including degrees in business administration, education, health and human performance, history, higher education student affairs, liberal studies, nursing administration, school psychology and special education.

OnlineColleges named FHSU the No. 2 school in Kansas for distance education. FHSU was ranked based on its affordability, diverse programs and Virtual College enrollment.
More than 40 degrees at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels are available through the Virtual College. All online degree programs are fully accredited, affordable, and utilize the latest in learning technology.

FHSU also earned recognition from OnlineColleges for the Bachelor of Arts in political science. The website praised FHSU for its affordability, innovation and resources for online students.
Students can choose between a concentration in pre-law or public administration. Both concentrations consist of 124 credit hours and are available entirely online. Courses include state and local government, American foreign policy, comparative politics, legal advocacy and policy analysis.

FHSU’s 120 credit-hour Bachelor of Science in agricultural business program provides opportunities for students to develop conceptual, technical and analytical skills related to careers in the agriculture industry.

TheBestColleges recognized FHSU’s Bachelor of Science in education (early childhood unified) as being among the best online undergraduate early childhood education programs in the nation.
The program requires 127 credit hours, including 12 credit hours of student teaching, and prepares students for careers in early childhood education as a teacher, administrator or coordinator.
Teachers with an early childhood unified endorsement can teach regular and special education from the birth to third-grade level.
