HAYS, Kan. – Through this project, Fort Hays State University alumni and friends donated over 700 items and $200 to the Hays USD 489 Hope Pantry this year in the 2017 Tiger Make a Difference project.
The pantry, established in 2015, assists homeless families and families that are at-risk of being homeless by providing them with food, clothing and other items needed to support their families when school is not in session, especially over the holiday breaks.
“Due to your generosity, this year we are able to fill 50 baskets for families in need,” said Sarah Wasinger, coordinator of the Hope Pantry. Donations were collected from Oct. 16 to Nov. 3.
The project is sponsored by the FHSU Alumni Association with the support of Golden Belt Bank, Tigers In Service, the FHSU Student Government Association and Tiger Athletics.
On Oct. 28, the official Make a Difference Day, Tiger fans attending the FHSU vs. Emporia State football game who donated items or money were eligible for a chance to win a tailgate gift package that included a 2018 FHSU tailgate spot at Lewis Field. FHSU alumni Whitney Brown, Hays, was the winner of this prize, donated by Golden Belt Bank.
