Denver area students recognized for scholarships at Fort Hays State program

HAYS, Kan. – Students from Colorado were recognized at a recent Student Recognition Program in Denver for the scholarships they have been awarded from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kan., for the 2018-19 academic year.
Students from most Colorado counties are invited to the annual Denver SRP. Six counties along the state’s eastern border – Bent, Baca, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Kit Carson and Prowers – are primarily served by SRP programs in Colby and Garden City, Kan.
Students are arranged alphabetically by high school. Cutlines are provided for the photos.
Byers High School
McKena Urban, a 2018 Byers High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in business. Urban, daughter of Frank and Kerri Urban, Byers, plans to major in business. Eaglecrest High School
Sarah Makinster, a 2018 Eaglecrest High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education and won the drawing for a laptop. Lauren Whittington, a 2018 Fleming High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health.
