Professors from various departments at Fort Hays State University were recognized for their attendance at Teaching Innovation and Learning Technology events throughout the 2017-18 school year.
TILT provides the FHSU teaching community with a range of programs and services revolving around effective teaching and innovative learning practices.
Dr. Nicole English, assistant professor of sociology, and Dr. Matthew Smalley, assistant professor of English, both received awards for attending all Learn and Network events.
Dr. Sky Westerlund, assistant professor of social work; Cyndi Landis, library specialist at Forsyth Library; Wendy Martin, instructor of biological sciences; Dr. James Smith, assistant professor of informatics; and Carrie Tholstrup, coordinator in the College of Education, all received awards for high attendance.
The goal of TILT is to enhance quality learning and professional development by providing workshops, one-on-one consultations, support in course development, and special programs designed to improve professional learning and growth.
Eight different Learn and Network events for new faculty on campus were held throughout the school year in FHSU’s Memorial Union and Tomanek Hall’s TILT learning lab. Over 30 new faculty members were invited to attend.
The events covered topics such as hands-on learning, innovative classroom technology, promotion, grant writing, serving on committees, Kelly Center services, and Faculty Senate.
The sessions were geared toward orienting new faculty to the culture and teaching at FHSU.
