A live cow milking demonstration and baby chicks were featured at Fort Hays State University’s Collegiate Farm Bureau’s recent annual Ag Day where about 350 individuals visited.
In an effort to advocate for agriculture, the event was created in 2010 to promote the beef industry. In 2017, the event was changed to Ag Day to include all facets of agriculture.
“The event allows students and other community members to learn about the various sectors of agriculture and even fill their stomachs while doing so,” said Anna Schmidtberger, Victoria senior and Collegiate Farm Bureau member. “No matter your interests, there was something there for everyone.”
Several booths were set up at the event including farm safety, agriculture technology and a water conservation booth. Hamburgers and hotdogs prepared by the Ellis County Farm Bureau Board, were also available.
Jackie Mundt, emcee, helped to inform individuals of the booths and sprinkled agricultural trivia throughout her performance.
“She truly helped make this event not only entertaining, but a true success,” said Schmidtberger.
“Overall, the event went really well, and the club hopes that the public will continue their support and come and learn about agriculture for years to come,” she said.
