University police officer completes basic training course

HAYS, Kan. –Fort Hays State University Police Officer Eric Gerard successfully completed the Police Officer’s Basic Training Course at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, Yoder, on May 10.
The course is a 14-week block of instruction where officer candidates learn the basic skills of a law enforcement officer.
Gerard was hired by the UPD in October 2018 and began his training in February. Before joining the University Police Department, Gerard worked in various occupations in Hays.
He graduated from Fort Hays State in 2013 with two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in justice studies and a B.S. in psychology.
The KLETC is a division of the University of Kansas Professional and Continuing Education.
