HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State University’s Dr. Paul Adams, dean of the College of Education, Dr. Janet Stramel, associate professor of teacher education, and Perla Camacho-Rosales, FHSU student and Noyce Scholar, recently presented at the 2019 Noyce Summit in Washington, D.C.
Camacho-Rosales, a senior majoring in mathematics (teaching), is from Liberal.
“Promising Practices in Rural Field Experiences for Pre-Service Teachers” is centered on the shortage of rural science, technology, engineering and math teachers, and FHSU efforts to address this need in Kansas.
The presentation was based on the work of two National Science Foundation Grants received by FHSU: Noyce Teacher Leaders for Western Kansas, and Recruiting, Preparing, and Retaining STEM Teachers for Western Kansas. Both projects provide $13,000 a year in scholarships for students choosing to enter a STEM teaching profession.
