HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State University’s Dr. Jacqueline Lubin, assistant professor in the Department of Advanced Education Programs, presented at the Council for Exceptional Children: Division of International Special Education and Services 2019 International Conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this past summer.
Lubin’s presentation, “Global Perspectives of Educators on Inclusion,” was based on a study conducted during the 2018-19 academic year of special and general educators from St. Lucia and the United States.
The presentation focused on understanding inclusion, barriers to inclusion, and strategies to overcome obstacles in inclusive education in different regions of the world.
“Since arriving at FHSU, Dr. Lubin has worked diligently to bridge international special education programming and services with what we do in Kansas,” said Dr. Brooke Moore, assistant professor and interim chair in the Department of Advanced Education Programs. “Her work is consistently recognized at DISES, which is quite an honor.”
In addition to the presentation, Lubin collaboratively participated in a service project where special educators from around the world painted a mural with the theme “Overcoming Hurdles” at the Catherine Hall Special Education School, also in Montego Bay.
“I enjoy learning new perspectives from new cultures,” said Lubin. “I am truly passionate about working and positively impacting the lives of individuals with exceptionalities.”
