HAYS, Kan. – Kelsi Broadway, military student success specialist for the Fort Hays State University Virtual College, was named a 2019 NASPA IV-West Rising Star.
Broadway has been working at FHSU since 2014 and in her current role since 2017. She “has been a tireless advocate for the students she serves,” said Dr. Phillip Olt, assistant professor of higher education student affairs.
Broadway, who was once a student veteran, understands the struggles this population faces and does whatever she can to make sure their needs are met.
Her dedication has resulted in “the presence of student veterans as the color guard at campus events, revitalization of the Student Veterans Association chapter, establishment of military-connected student scholarships, and a general presence in the conversations around campus,” said Olt.
NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health and sustainability of the student affairs profession.
The Rising Star Award recognizes early career professionals in student affairs who demonstrate excellence and above-and-beyond commitment to students.
The regional conference will be held in October in Fargo, North Dakota, and awards will be presented during the reception.
