HAYS, Kan. – Shawn Bush, a Glendale, Calif., graduate student in the Department of Advanced Education Programs in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University, has been selected to make a presentation at the 2020 Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Portland, Ore.
“Sticky Notes Support Strategic Student Outcomes” explores using sticky notes as a low-tech comprehension intervention for students with learning disabilities.
Bush’s research indicates that sticky notes can help students with learning disabilities better visualize and comprehend what they are reading. Participants learn how to implement dialogic reading that incorporates sticky-note scavenger hunts for students to write, read and share with peers.
“He presented his research virtually at SACAD last spring and now has achieved this honor of being accepted to present at CEC,” said Dr. Brooke Moore, interim chair of the Advanced Education Programs Department.
SACAD is the annual John Heinrichs Scholarly and Creative Activities Day, held each spring. Students, faculty and staff exhibit posters and creative works and make presentations of their research.
