HAYS, Kan. - Second-year graduate students in Fort Hays State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) brought home first-place honors from a national competition in Boston, Nov. 17.
Competing in the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association Knowledge Bowl for FHSU were Emily Peaney, Newton; Jordan Parker, Lamar, Colo.; Anne Stukey, Waverly; Abigail Wallace, Princeton; and Ashlyn Cure, Ingalls (alternate).
"It was great to attend the NSSLHA Knowledge Bowl,” said Konner Treff, first year graduate student. “It is always a fun time when you get to cheer on your classmates while also reviewing and learning new information that will help us prepare for the praxis in the future."
In a jeopardy-style competition against five other teams from programs across the U.S., team members received points for correct answers and had points deducted for incorrect answers. Questions presented were similar to questions the students will be asked when taking their national comprehensive examination.
"Seeing Fort Hays State win the knowledge bowl at ASHA was a really great experience,” said Jaspreet Kaur, first year graduate student. “The win made me realize our professors really want us to be successful when it comes to our knowledge regarding CSD and that our students are well informed with the right information to compete at a high-level competition."
The competition was held during the annual American Speech-Language Hearing Association Convention at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
