Fort Hays State University offers a nursing guaranteed admission opportunity to qualified first-time, full-time freshman students majoring in the On-Campus Pre-Licensure BSN Program. Transfer students and graduated high school students are not eligible. If selected, the student is granted admission preference and will not have to participate in the competitive application process in the sophomore year. Students must remain in good standing and meet all NGAP and nursing department requirements to be granted full admission.
Who can apply for the NGAP?
High school seniors are eligible to apply. In order to be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application submission:
- Admission to Fort Hays State University
- Declare nursing as intended major
- Minimum ACT 24 or SAT 1160*
How do I apply for the NGAP?
- Complete the program application form.
- Submit a letter of reference from teacher, counselor or school administrator.
- Submit official ACT or SAT test scores.
When are applications due?
Applications will be accepted until February 1st.
How many applicants will be admitted into the NGAP?
The number admitted will vary depending on the number of qualified applicants. No more than 20 applicants will be selected for the NGAP each year.
If I am selected for the NGAP, what is required to be granted admission into the BSN program?
- Maintain a cumulative 3.3 GPA in all university course work
- Complete all required pre-requisite science courses with a minimum grade of B (no repeats allowed)
- Successfully complete all other pre-requisite courses with a minimum grade of C
- Maintain good standing with the university and the department
- Complete the NGAP Admission check list with signature from program coordinator/advisor
- Successful completion of background check required for clinical placement
- Hold a current American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers BLS certificate
What happens if a student admitted into the Guaranteed Admission Program fails to meet the criteria for continuation in the program?
The student may still apply for admission to the nursing program following the traditional process and will be given full consideration through that process.
