Schmidt Foundation Scholars
The Schmidt Foundation Scholars scholarship is a $16,000 award made possible through the generous gifts of the Schmidt Foundation. This amount includes 30 hours of tuition and fees for fall and spring courses, books, and room and board. This scholarship aims to support FHSU students, with preference given to students from Kansas and first-generation college students. Recipients have the opportunity to renew their scholarship for up to three additional years if eligibility requirements continue to be met. Each year, five future FHSU students from the incoming freshman class will have the opportunity to receive this prestigious scholarship and join the respected community of Schmidt Foundation Scholars.
The applications for freshmen starting in the fall of 2025 will be open from midnight on September 15, 2024 to midnight on February 15, 2025. Applications will be reviewed by a joint committee from the Schmidt Foundation and FHSU. When finalists are selected, they will be invited to participate in a Zoom interview with the scholarship committee. Next, the finalist’s two personal references will be contacted so the scholarship committee can gain insight into the finalist’s character and how likely they are to fit into the scholarship program. Award announcements will be made shortly thereafter.
