Dr. Patricia Levy has been in the field of social work for over thirty years. She received her Bachelors in Social Work from Bar Ilan University in Israel, her Masters in Social Work from the School of Social Work at the University of Washington, and her Ph.D. in Human Services with a concentration in Social Work and Community Services from Capella University.
Prof. Levy comes from an extensive background in multicultural practice with children, families, and medical social work including front-line, supervisory, and administrative practice both in Israel and in the United States. Her skilled expertise with culturally diverse groups has culminated in a richness of professional experience while working with Native American, African American, and a wide range of Middle Eastern and European populations.
Dr. Levy has published on gerontological practice in social work, on practice intervention in war and terrorism, cultural competency, and on rural medical social work. These have included publications not only in the United States but also internationally in England, Australia, and Greece. Presentations have been given in the U.S., Japan, Greece, and Israel.
Her areas of research have culminated in studies of social work curricular preparation in the event of acts of terrorism, and on topics of spirituality and cross-cultural health models of intervention. She is very involved with university and community contexts dealing with gerontology, disability, and chronic illness.
Professor Levy currently teaches upper level courses on community and organizational systems in addition to a series of courses on Human Development in the Social Environment encompassing micro, mezzo, and macro contexts. She also teaches an online Mass Trauma Intervention course, and is offering virtually a cross-listed (undergraduate/graduate level) class titled Spirituality and Aging: The Empowering Relationship that focuses on spiritual beliefs and culturally diverse views of healing.
The mother of two grown sons, both college graduates, Dr. Levy enjoys her family, loves to cook and read, and has two mutts, Jolie and Lady. She enjoys the serenity and beauty of Midwest rural life in Kansas.
