Certificate in Cultural Diversity Studies
12 Credit Hours
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Identity are all issues that are not only timely, but necessary for a functioning democratic society. Fort Hays State University offers coursework from an array of academic fields that allows for an historical, theoretical, and research-based understanding of the contemporary social issues to Cultural Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Identity. Along the way, take your own excursions into sociology, history, literature, philosophy, and/or political science. All courses are intentionally designed to appeal to all majors.
Once you have have taken the approved number of classes, you will be issued an official certificate that recognizes your successful completion of the Certificate in Cultural Diversity Studies at Fort Hays State University. Students must receive a grade of "C" or higher in each course to count it towards the certificate. (Classes will be offered both on-campus and online).
Students complete requirements by taking SOC 376/IDS 350: Diversity in the U.S., one course from history, and two additional courses from the electives section of the following list.

More classes may be included later as the Certificate program grows. More classes may also be offered online over time. Other FHSU courses may be substituted as electives upon approval of certificate coordinator.
Please note:
It is the responsibility of students to inform the coordinator of the certificate program that they have completed the certificate requirements. Your certificate will not be awarded until you have completed the requirements and informed your coordinator of same. To ensure there is enough time to process your certificate, please inform your coordinator by the 21st day of the semester in which the certificate is to be awarded.
In order to verify certificate completion, the students must go into his/her Workday account, where the unofficial transcript can be found.From the unofficial transcript available to students, copy and paste each course completed toward the certificate (with grade earned showing) into an e-mail to be sent to the coordinator of the certificate. The student’s e-mail note to the certificate coordinator should beginwith an expression of the certificate earned, followed by the courses completed as documented from the unofficial transcript.
In summary, please e-mail your certification coordinator with:
- The certificate name.
- The courses completed from your unofficial transcript.
- Your name presented as you like for your certificate.
- Your mailing address.
