Professional Development
There are currently three primary ways available for staff to pursue professional development goals:
Employee Tuition Assistance Staff Development Fund Staff Senate Scholarship
Employee Tuition Assistance is for up to six credit hours of FHSU coursework per semester in a degree-seeking program. Spouses and dependents can get up to 12 credit hours per semester in a degree-seeking program.
Please note that this only covers $156.81/credit hour at the undergraduate level and $234.36/credit hour at the graduate level based on the 2024-25 tuition and fee rates. Differential tuition rates (FHSU Online, MBA, Counseling, and DNP) will still only be covered at the above rates.
Please feel free to contact Les Jenkins-Mackey for assistance on estimating costs!
The Staff Development Fund is used for any activity that encourages staff to acquire knowledge, skills, techniques, and attitudes that enhance individual professional development in providing effective service at Fort Hays State University. Each fiscal year, this can cover up to $800 if attending or up to $1000 if presenting.
The Staff Senate Scholarship is used for books and supplies while taking FHSU coursework. This is given in the form of a reimbursement after a course is completed for up to $200 per fiscal year.
This scholarship program is funded entirely through donations. Please consider allocating your next donation to the FHSU Foundation to support the University Staff Scholarship Fund.
