Welcome to the FHSU Writing Center! My consultants and I can’t wait to help you find ways to make writing a more enjoyable process. As an instructor of Composition, ESL, Developmental Writing, and Technical Writing, I have spent my educational and professional career focused on all things writing. I know the writing process can be confusing and frustrating, so I have dedicated my time and own writing to exploring ways that all people can improve their writing and develop their personal style and process. Writing does not come with a one-size-fits-all manual, so our goal in the Writing Center is meeting your needs as students and early-professionals and making each of you the best writers you can be!

Isaiah Russell
Sophomore, English
I am currently a sophomore majoring in English. I am hoping to study abroad next year. While writing has always been a necessary part of my education, I’ve come to realize that it can actually be an effective and even enjoyable way to communicate ideas and perspectives. I even write occasionally on my own time. However, I strongly believe that if someone is struggling with their academic writing, they shouldn’t have to deal with it on their own. I will try my hardest to work with you to improve your writing techniques and skills. I hope that you will come to the Writing Center and take advantage of this great resource!
Taygan McBurney
Senior, English, Writing Concentration
I am a senior majoring in English with a concentration in Writing. I enjoy spending my free time reading, so I know I chose the correct field of study! My hobbies include reading, creative writing, and cheering here at FHSU. I have always been interested in writing and know from personal experience just how intimidating that can be. If you find writing difficult, I hope to pass on my knowledge and make your experience worthwhile!
Taylor Vredenburg
Senior, Philosophy and English, Literature Concentration
I am currently a senior double majoring in Philosophy and English with a concentration in Literature. I spend much of my time reading and writing, and I am lucky enough to thoroughly enjoy that aspect of my education. In my free time, I enjoy learning new skills, drinking coffee, and reading new books. As an English major, I understand that writing can be difficult, but it does not need to feel impossibly difficult. I believe in cultivating the ability to break down the writing process into manageable steps, and I believe that through that process everyone can be a strong writer.
