Department Information
The Social Work Department at FHSU offers programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address complex social issues. Whether advocating for individuals, families, or communities, you’ll gain the expertise to evaluate and solve real-world problems with empathy and professionalism.
As one of the fastest-growing careers in the U.S., social work offers dynamic opportunities to make a difference. Our programs provide you with a deep understanding of human behavior, development, and the social systems that influence lives. Through hands-on learning experiences, such as internships and service projects, you will graduate ready to take on diverse roles in a profession dedicated to improving the well-being of others.
While earning your degree is your primary goal, college offers much more than just attending classes. Get involved in extracurricular activities that help you develop leadership skills, learn more about your chosen career, and make a difference in your community.
- Social Work Club: Offers social connections, networking, and experiential learning opportunities that align with the core values of social work—service, social justice, integrity, and competence. The club hosts events and fundraising activities while providing networking opportunities for future social workers.
- Phi Alpha Honor Society: An honorary society for social work students that promotes humanitarian goals and academic excellence. Phi Alpha is open to students who have achieved academic success and wish to deepen their engagement in the profession.
The Council on Social Work Education accredits the Social Work Program at FHSU at the undergraduate and graduate level. In accord with the Council on Social Work Education’s evaluative standards, the Social Work Program does not grant academic credit for life experience or previous work experience.
