Access to Academic Opportunity Grant Application (AAOG)
This grant exists to provide undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented populations, who otherwise might not have access to quality education, an opportunity to reach their fullest academic and leadership potential.
Each recipient will be carefully selected by a committee and expected to fulfill each requirement upon acceptance for the AAOG.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Recipients must be new, first-time, full-time, on-campus undergraduate students enrolled at Fort Hays State University.
- Submit an essay of 600 words or less, which includes background, financial need, evidence of commitment to complete the program of study, care or service for the community, and any other information you feel supports the application.
- Preference to first-generation college students. (The term refers to students from families where neither of their parents earned a four-year degree from a US College or University.)
GRANT AMOUNT
A grant in an amount of $4,000 or $2,000 is intended to pay tuition and fees, books, living expenses, etc. It will be awarded in increments up to $2,000 or $1,000 in the fall semester and $2,000 or $1,000 in the spring semester.
Final selection and amount of awards will be at the discretion of the selection committee.
RENEWAL CRITERIA
Automatically renewable for freshman for three additional award years if 2.5 cumulative FHSU GPA is maintained and 12 credit hours were completed each semester.
Automatically renewable for transfers for one additional year if 2.5 cumulative FHSU GPA is maintained and 12 credit hours were completed each semester.
Awards are available for fall and spring terms only.
Recipient must fulfill mentor/mentee program requirements.
Recipient must be involved and continue to be involved in at least one FHSU student organization.
Recipient will be required to complete 10 hours of community service each semester.
