Prospective Student Visits to the Biology Department
Individual high school students frequently visit the Department of Biological Sciences throughout the year to meet with a faculty member in the department and discuss degree options and other opportunities. These visits by prospective undergraduate students and their family members are coordinated through the FHSU Admissions Office (https://www.fhsu.edu/admissions/campus-visit/). Activities included in these visits typically include a meeting with an admissions counselor, a tour of the campus, a meeting with faculty in one or more departments of interest to you, and possibly visits with coaches or faculty who supervise extracurricular activities, such as athletic teams and musical groups. These visits allow prospective students to see the FHSU campus and the facilities available to students. Bus trips for prospective students from major cities in Kansas, as well as Nebraska and Colorado, are also available (https://www.fhsu.edu/admissions/upcoming-events/).
In addition to these initial visits to explore the university and the Department of Biological Sciences, high school seniors who decide to attend FHSU are encouraged to attend one of the early registration sessions offered on Saturdays in April. These sessions will familiarize you (and your parents) with services available at the university, and faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences will assist you in registering for the best possible class schedule for your first fall semester on campus. To attend one of these sessions, you must have completed the application for admission (https://www.fhsu.edu/admissions/admissions-application/).
During the spring semester, students interested in careers in human health, can tour the human cadaver lab. These tours are for school groups schedule by the school, please send an email to BioSciences@fhsu.edu.
