Go Beyond Studying and Engage in Research
Undergraduate Program: B.S. in Biology
Four Concentrations, Endless Career Opportunities.
The Health Professions concentration supports students aspiring to be medical doctors, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, physician’s associates, physical therapists, occupational therapists, as well as other health professionals. Visit our Health Professions page for more information.
The Natural Resources concentration supports students who want to become a wildlife biologist, aquatic biologist, rangeland manager, conservation biologist, zoo technician, field biologist, environmental consultant, and more. Visit our Natural Resources page for more information.
The General Biology concentration supports a wide variety of students. It is appropriate for those interested in pursuing a career in a research or forensics lab and provides an appropriate foundation for some health professions and field biologists. General Biology is also appropriate for those who haven’t yet decided on a career but enjoy the process of discovery and are passionate about biology. Visit our General Biology page for more information.
The Biology and Secondary Education concentration enables students to earn a degree in both biology and secondary education. This concentration prepares students to teach science at the middle and high school levels. Biology and Education faculty work together to ensure that students acquire biology knowledge and classroom management skills. Visit our Biology Education page for more information.
Graduate Program: M.S. in Biology
Accelerated and Traditional
High acheiveing juniors in the undergraduate program at FHSU are invited to participate in our accelerated M.S. program. Students accepted into the accelerated M.S. program can take up to 9 credits of graduate level courses during their undergraduate senior year and count those 9 credits towards both their B.S. and M.S. degrees. This allows a student to complete their M.S. degree in as little as one year.
Our traditional M.S. program is a 30 credit hour on-campus two-year program. Our M.S. students participate in a wide variety of research ranging from microorganisms to ecosystems. We offer both a non-thesis and thesis track for our graduate students. For more information, please visit the following page: Master of Science in Biology.
