There are many scholarships available for College of Education undergraduate and graduate students. The following are some of the scholarships that are available, however we do highly encourage you to visit the Official FHSU Scholarships website for a full list of available scholarships.

Fort Hays State University Scholarships

2017-2018 Final Deadline:

February 15, 2018

Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship

The Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship is a merit-based service obligation scholarship program that provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor's degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines or master's degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines or either group planning to teach in an underserved geographic area. Recipients sign agreements to teach one year for each year of scholarship support in Kansas. Recipients are eligible to receive this scholarship for up to ten semesters, which includes both undergraduate and graduate work. Priority Deadline: May 1.

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH Grant)

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for graduate and undergraduate students who intend to teach full-time in high-need subject areas for at least four years at schools that serve students from low-income families.

  • Undergraduate Study: Up to $4,000 per year for first baccalaureate to a maximum of $16,000
  • Post-Baccalaureate Study: Up to $4,000 per year for first post-baccalaureate teacher certification program, up to remaining balance of undergraduate maximum
  • Graduate Study: Up to $4,000 per year for a Master's degree to a maximum of $8,000

If you fail to complete the 4-year teaching obligation within 8 years of completing or ceasing your program of study, you will have to repay the grant with interest. 

National Science Foundation (NSF) Robert Noyce Scholarship

The National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Scholarship Program is designed to increase the supply of highly qualified middle and high school teachers (grades 6-12) in mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics.

The Noyce Scholarship program at Fort Hays State University offers two levels of support for prospective teachers.

  • The Noyce Teacher-Leader program provides financial support for juniors and seniors majoring in science and mathematics fields who are pursuing a teaching career.
  • The Noyce Summer Scholar program provides paid opportunities for students to experience teaching science and mathematics in informal settings such as camps and outreach programs prior to formally pursuing a career in teaching.

AEP Faculty and Friends Scholarship

This fund was established by members of the Advanced Education Programs Department faculty during the 2016-2017 year. Initial funding was provided through the estate of Phyllis Aley, 1953 and 1955.

Scholarship recipients will be majors in any of the Advanced Education Programs Department programs. A minimum of a 3.3 GPA is required and must have completed 6 hours in and AEP Program prior to applying. Selection will be based on need and the personal vision of the contributions to the profession.

An application will require two narratives of 500 to 750 words combined answer the following:

  • In terms of need, describe what this scholarship would mean for your personally and professionally: and
  • Describe your personal vision for contributing to the profession you are seeking. Articulate problems, gaps or needs that you see that require change to improve the efficacy of your chosen profession and how you are working to be a change agent for such improvement. Describe the qualities that you bring to bear on making a difference in people's lives within your chosen profession.
