Sorority Recruitment Policies
Updates from the National Panhellenic Conference about recruitment
The NPC has been hard at work ensuring that every campus and chapter has a successful fall formal recruitment. The FHSU FSL Team and the NPC Recruitment Response Team have been in communication throughout the spring and summer to ensure recruitment is a success, and fair to all participants. Please note that some of these rules are subject to change due to the everchanging COVID-19 situation. Potential New Member Bill of Rights
- The right to be treated as an individual.
- The right to be fully informed about the recruitment process.
- The right to ask questions and receive true and objective answers from Pi Chis.
- The right to be treated with respect.
- The right to be treated as a capable and mature person without being patronized.
- The right to ask how and why and receive straight answers.
- The right to have and express opinions to Pi Chis.
- The right to expect confidentiality when sharing information with Pi Chis.
- The right to make informed choices without undue pressure from others.
- The right to be fully informed about the binding agreements implicit in the preference card signing.
- The right to make one’s own choice and decision and accept full responsibility for the results of that decision.
- The right to have a positive, safe, and enriching recruitment and pledging experience.
Hazing Policy at FHSU
Hazing is defined as any action taken or situation created, whether on or off university premises, as part of initiation to or continued membership in a student, social, or fraternal organization, that endangers the life or health of a member, that has the potential to cause bodily or emotional injury or that produces mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule.
Contact & Silence Policies Prior To And During Recruitment
- *No electronic contact between sorority members and potential new members (ex: letters, emails, and social media).
- Normal contact can occur, but conversations should be limited to the benefits of participating in recruitment, not specific to any one organization.
- Sororities cannot have gatherings that include potential new members (ex: teas, parties, trips).
- Potential new members cannot stay with sorority members (ex: spending the night at a member’s house).
- Potential new members can be in contact with CPC ambassadors from the time the Potential New Member registers for recruitment
*This rule has been adjusted due to the COVID-19 situation and specific sorority members (Pi Chis) are allowed electronic contact with PNMs.
