Graduates in the World
Travis Esslinger (2003, 2005)
Teaching Assistant
University of Arkansas
Fayetteville, AR
Quite possibly the best six years of my life! The HHP Department at FHSU provides excellent teachers who truly care about the progress and development of their students. The experiences and friendships built through this program will last a lifetime. I am currently developing curriculum and teaching various activity classes and PE related courses at the University of Arkansas. The diverse opportunities I experienced at FHSU have helped me become more knowledgeable in the various fields of kinesiology and as a result my understanding and teaching has vastly improved. While at FHSU I completed an internship as an Exercise Specialist at the Center for Health Improvement, was active in PEK and track and field, and worked as a part-time stroke clinic aid, a water aerobics instructor and a personal wellness GA.
Katherine Rhodes (2006)
Personal Trainer, Fitness Director
Larry North Fitness
Dallas, TX
I have always had a strong passion for both fitness and how the body adapts to exercise. I was fortunate to become employed by Larry North Fitness - one of the top training facilities in Dallas - and began training shortly after graduation in May of 2006. Half a year after starting, I was promoted to assistant fitness director and, a year later, fitness director. As a health and human performance major, I was involved with Special Olympics, ARC, various intramural events and FHSU varsity athletics. I was also active in Phi Kappa Epsilon. Additionally, I spent a summer participating in an internship with the Cooper Aerobics Center. It opened my eyes to the variety of careers available in the fitness industry beyond physical education teachers and coaches. These experiences gave me a set of skills suited for my future career. FHSU provided me with valuable work experience and knowledge to take into my career as a fitness director.
Jeremy Capo (2002, 2004)
Assistant Director of Athletics
Colorado State University-Pueblo
Pueblo, CO
I monitor the department's compliance and eligibility; am responsible for athletic facilities; and manage home athletic events, all of which I thoroughly enjoy. Had it not been for my academic experiences, I would not have pursued a career in this field. I use the skills gained in the core classes to assist me with event planning, marketing, promotions and many other every day activities. I did internships in the FHSU Intramural and Athletics Departments. Both provided me with hands on knowledge of the field and allowed for personal and professional growth. My extracurricular activities included participating in Intramurals and officiating. Most importantly, the internships cemented my decision to pursue a career in the field. Every day was a new and exciting challenge, which provided different ways for me to use what I learned in the classroom in a practical situation. Had it not been for the leadership of the HPER department staff and faculty, I would not be where I am today! I am forever in debt and owe them a tremendous amount of gratitude!
