How do I apply?
The online application, instructions, and list of required documents can be found here:
Is there an application fee? Can it be waived?
Yes, there is a $50 application fee. No, it cannot be waived.
What is the application deadline?
Undergraduate (bachelor's degree) On Campus:
- Fall semester (August-December) - June 1
- Spring semester (January-May) - October 15
Undergraduate (bachelor's degree) Online:
- Fall semester (August-December) - August 1
- Spring semester (January-May) - November 15
- Summer semester (June-July) - May 1
Graduate (master's degree) applicants:
- Fall semester (August-December) - June 1
- Spring semester (January-May) - October 1
What are the admission requirements?

How do I submit the required documents?
Students can email a copy of their passport ID page to international@fhsu.edu . An original financial statement (certified Bank Statement) must be obtained and mailed to FHSU International Student Services Office. English proficiency exam results will only be accepted directly from the testing company, and transcripts (grade sheets) will only be accepted directly from the school of record. Will my documents be returned to me?
No, documents will not be returned.
Is an English test required? (TOEFL, IELTS, iTEP, and Duolingo)
Yes, an English proficiency exam is required for most international students. FHSU will accept TOEFL, ITELTS, iTEP, and Duolingo.
What if my English test score is below the minimum requirement for admission?
We offer an intensive English Language Program for students who need to improve their English proficiency before starting academic course work.
Does FHSU offer an English language program?

Is the ACT or SAT exam required?
No, the ACT or SAT is not required. However, first-time freshmen (have not started college/university) can earn up to $15,000 in scholarships based on their ACT or SAT scores and high school GPA. It is beneficial for students to take the ACT or SAT exam. Scholarship details

When is the payment deadline?

What method of payment can I use to pay for tuition and fees?
Payment can be made through credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover), or through Flywire (bank wire transfer service). Flywire details
How do I pay tuition and fees (finalize registration)?
Students must finalize registration through myFHSU worklet in Workday.
Can I pay tuition and fees in installments?
Yes, students can choose to pay with a tuition installment plan.

Scholarships and Required Health Insurance
Are scholarships or financial aid available?
Yes, scholarships are available for international students. International students are not eligible for other types of financial aid.
Is health insurance required?
Yes, international students are required to have health insurance as a student in the United States. FHSU will not accept health insurance plans from outside the United States.
How do I pay for health insurance?
Students are automatically assessed health insurance charges along with tuition and fees. Payment for health insurance is made through the finalizing registration process in the student’s myFHSU worklet. The International Student Services Office will register students in the health insurance plan after payment is made.
Course Transfer
Will my courses/credits completed at another university outside the U.S. be accepted?
For international college credit transfer, Fort Hays State University accepts transcript evaluations from any member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
Select the course-by-course evaluation and have the evaluating company send an official report of its evaluation to Fort Hays State University for each international transcript. FHSU will then use the evaluation to determine which courses will be accepted to fulfill degree requirements. College credit transfer WILL NOT be considered PRIOR to students obtaining FHSU admission. NOTE: FHSU prefers WES course-by-course evaluations but will accept any NACES approved member.

Can I transfer from another university inside the U.S.?
Yes, after obtaining admission to FHSU, contact us at international@fhsu.edu and request a transfer authorization form.
Do I need to have my academic credentials evaluated?
Transcripts in English do not need to be evaluated for admission to the university, but transcripts not in English do need to be translated. Transcripts do need to be evaluated if the student would like to transfer credit.

Pre-Arrival and Orientation
I cannot arrive by the start of the semester. What should I do?
Contact the FHSU International Student Services Office immediately to discuss any late arrivals so we assist with finding a solution at international@fhsu.edu.
Is there an orientation for international students?
Yes, there is one at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Is there an orientation/registration fee?
Yes, the fee for orientation/registration is $60.
How do I pay the orientation/registration fee?
Students must pay by cash only, and it is collected during orientation.
When do I need to pay for the orientation/registration fee?
The fee is collected during orientation.
Living in Hays, Kansas
Do I have to live on-campus?
Students are required to live on-campus for the first year. After the first year, students are eligible to move off campus. Online students are not required to live on-campus.
Is the FHSU campus safe?
Yes, FHSU has been ranked as one of the safest colleges in America by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
What is it like to live in Hays, Kansas?
Hays, Kansas is a great city with nice and friendly people. The Hays community has great restaurants that serve a variety of cultural foods. Additionally, the community has shopping, art, community theater, and outdoor activities. Explore Hays
Can I work and earn money?
Yes, international students can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week.
I plan to bring a spouse and/or children. Is there family housing available on campus?
Yes, FHSU has apartment style housing for students with families.
I have never been to the USA, and I am nervous about adjusting to a new culture.

Student Involvement
How do I try out for and join one of the sports teams?
Students can participate in sports throughout the year with their friends through the Intramurals and Recreation Department. We have a long list of sports and other activities such as basketball, soccer, bowling, softball, tennis, table tennis, and many more.
If you are interested in competitive sports at FHSU, students should contact the appropriate coach for each sport. Contact list for coaches.

Can I change my major at any time?
Yes, students can speak with their academic advisor to change majors. Inform the International Student Services Office to obtain a new I-20 with your new major.
Can I complete my degree online?
Many FHSU degree programs are available 100% online at FHSU Online.
Can I study part-time?
On-campus students are not allowed to study part-time; however, Online students are allowed to be registered part-time.
Federal regulations require that on-campus international undergraduate students register in a minimum of 12 credit hours and international graduate students register in a minimum of 9 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. Online international students have no minimum credit hour requirements.

What are the next steps after I am admitted?
Students will receive an acceptance letter and an I-20 or DS-2019. For next steps, students should visit the FHSU international pre-arrival website.
How do I choose my courses?
After admitted, students can access course options in their myFHSU worklet.
Where can I view my courses after my registration is final?
All students will have access to our learning management system called Blackboard. In this system, you will be able to see the details for your courses.
