Welcome to the FHSU Orchestra Program
Dr. Brian Buckstead, Director of Orchestra
I am pleased to learn of your interest in music at Fort Hays State University, and want to welcome you to our community. As conductor of the Hays Symphony and FHSU Sinfonietta, I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, where the joy of making music is always present. Students such as yourselves will have the chance to learn and perform music from a wide variety of composers, from the masters of the past to the diverse voices of today. Founded in 1914, the Hays Orchestra is the longest continuously running orchestra in the state of Kansas. Orchestral musicians include FHSU students and faculty, Hays area volunteers, and guest musicians from throughout Kansas. The full orchestra presents at least two concerts a semester.
