Hardware Specifications for Students
All students registered at Fort Hays State University are expected to have a computer* for use in a variety of university learning experiences.
*On-campus students are expected to have a laptop to ensure mobility.
TigerTech only provides assistance with accessing and using FHSU-hosted systems and University-owned equipment. FHSU does not sell computers and does not provide computer repair for student devices.
Hardware Specifications:
- To meet basic security, networking, and upgrade requirements, your computer should be running Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 14 - Sonoma (or newer).
- Ideally, your computer's warranty should be supported by the manufacturer throughout your college career.
- Chromebooks and iPads are not recommended for use as your primary device due to limited functionality.
- Having a webcam and microphone to use with your computer is highly recommended (most laptops have these as built-in equipment).
- Ask your instructor or academic department about any specific technology requirements that may apply for each course in which you are registered.
Scope of Service:

- TigerTech provides assistance with accessing and using Fort Hays State University systems; we only support equipment that is owned by FHSU.
- We are unable to provide repair services for personal computer hardware or peripherals or support for non-FHSU-related systems, software, or procedures not distributed by our office.
- For liability, privacy, and security reasons, TigerTech is not authorized to provide assistance on a customer's computer, portable device, or other hardware or peripheral, except in the presence of the owner.
- TigerTech will not retain a student's computer or device in order to perform work at a later time.
