Basic Setup and Troubleshooting
This page provides basic information to assist with FHSU internet connection setup and troubleshooting.
Printers are not allowed on FHSU wireless networks. Wireless is a shared network and most consumer printers lack basic security features to avoid abuse from others. We recommend using USB to ensure private use of your printer.
Most devices are ready to connect to the FHSU network by default. However, these are the basic requirements your device must meet:
- The IP address and DNS settings for your network adapter must be set to automatic / DHCP. Static configurations will not work. You may change your DNS servers after registering the device.
- When connecting to the wired network, use minimum CAT5e-rated cable. Most ethernet cables provided with devices will work.
- For best WiFi performance, a dual-band 802.11ac (or better) wifi adapter is recommended. Please check with your manufacturer for specifics on your adapter.
Performance rating:- Poor: 802.11n (single-band, 2.4Ghz)
- Good: 802.11n (dual-band)
- Great: 802.11ac
- Excellent: 802.11ax (“Wi-FI 6”)
- Reboot.
- Windows: most wifi issues can be resolved by updating your wifi drivers. They can be found at your manufacturer's support website.
- Ensure your computer is running the latest software patches.
- Ensure you are not operating in Airplane mode.
- Some laptops have switches or buttons to disable wifi entirely. Refer to your device manual to find out if your device has this feature.
- Does it work in one building but not another? If so, report this issue to TigerTech.
- Reboot.
- Try a different Ethernet cable.
- Ensure your network adapter is set to get an IP address dynamically.
- If available, connect to another data jack. If that connection works but is not convenient, please contact TigerTech to report the issue.
- Does it work for another computer? If so, the issue may be with your computer.
