An academic advisor will be assigned once you have been admitted to the Graduate School. Those applying to the Graduate School as degree seeking will be advised by Mrs. Amanda Frank. Non-degree seeking students will be advised by Dr. Gary Andersen (last names A-E), Dr. Kenny Rigler (last names F-K) and Mrs. Jackie Baxter (last names L-Z). Advisor information can be found in your myFHSU worklet in Workday account.
6 credit hours per semester is required for half-time eligibility in the Non-degree T2T program and 5 credit hours per semester is required for half-time eligibility in the MSE+T2T program. This program consists of all graduate level courses. Only pedagogical coursework taken at the graduate level will be considered for substitution on a case-by-case basis.
Prerequisite eligibility coursework needs to be completed prior to entering the program. One or two courses can be completed during the first year of the program with approval.
These can be taken through FHSU or an institution of your choice. If you plan to take them through FHSU, you'll need to apply to the Graduate School as Education (Secondary and PK-12 Transition to Teaching) Graduate Non-Degree and notify Rebekah Porter at R_porter2@fhsu.edu.
The T2T Academic Program Specialist will calculate your GPA and provide guidance regarding options to increase it for program admission.
Yes, KSDE regulations require that a candidate be hired as the teacher of record by an accredited Kansas school. In order to complete the assignments in the courses, candidates must be teaching in a classroom.
Once you are confirmed to be qualified for the T2T program, a letter of eligibility will be provided to you for use when applying for teaching positions.
ASAP! It is required to be passed before KSDE will issue you a restricted teaching license and this license is required to be in the program. Register at www.ets.org/praxis/. Allow 3-4 weeks for your score report to be available.
Contact the T2T Academic Program Specialist with the school that you've been hired at, the subject area you'll be teaching and if you've taken the Praxis yet. That will get the ball rolling and a Plan of Study and "Next Steps" will be sent to you.
FHSU's tuition continues to be one of the lowest in the state. The courses are all graduate level. Check the Tuition and Fees site for current tuition rates.
The program is geared toward those people that are hired to begin teaching jobs in August, but you may enter mid-year. You will be required to attend an online Induction course during the summer prior to the beginning of the school year. If you enter the program after the summer, you will take the Induction class the semester you start.
It takes two years to complete the 24 credit hours required for licensure.
The greatest benefit of this program is that all courses are online.
They will all be taught by qualified education faculty or adjunct instructors hired by at Fort Hays State University.
While you are completing coursework in the program, you will have a Restricted Teaching License and are considered highly qualified in your subject area. Once you complete the program, then you will be eligible to apply for either a two year Initial Teaching License or a five year Professional Teaching License.
