Writing Across the Curriculum
"88% of FHSU faculty respondents agree that the responsibility for teaching writing at FHSU is shared among first-year writing courses in English Programs, the General Education Program, and the curriculum within a student's major." -WAC Faculty Survey, Spring 2021
Welcome to the website devoted to writing at Fort Hays State University—how to do it and how to teach it. This is the place to start, whether you’re a faculty member looking for teaching and assessment ideas or a student looking for help with any writing task.
MISSION STATEMENT AND GOALS
FHSU WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
The WAC Committee meets monthly to carry out the mission and goals of Writing Across the Curriculum at FHSU. It includes representatives from each of the five colleges, as well as representatives from Forsyth Library and the FHSU Writing Center. Subcommittees meet in addition to the monthly whole-committee meetings to work on projects like faculty workshops, writing recognition programs, materials for teaching writing, and this WAC website—just to name a few examples.
WAC CLEARINGHOUSE
According to its homepage, this extensive site is devoted to “supporting scholarly exchange about communication across the disciplines.” Take a moment to browse this site just once, and you’ll likely return to it again and again for its wealth of material: faculty tip sheets; WAC-related news, events, and calls; over 120 free-access books; writing guides for writing in the sciences—and more. No need to reinvent the wheel when so many professors from so many disciplines have already compiled a compendium of practical and theoretical material.
