Library Services for Alumni & Community Members
FHSU alumni & community members can access some of the physical and electronic materials at Forsyth Library.
Using the Library
Alumni and community members have access to the physical materials in Forsyth Library by borrowing with a community card or a temporary card. Both cards provide access to check out physical materials and have on-campus access to electronic resources.
- Community Card
- FHSU Alumni can request a free community card
- Community members may purchase a card for $25.00
- Temporary Card
- Kansas High School students and North Central Kansas Technical College (NCK Tech) students can register for a free temporary card (valid one year)
Due to licensing agreements, alumni and community members only have on-campus access to subscription electronic resources (articles, e-books, research databases) in order to access them from Forsyth Library's IP address. Off-campus access to subscription electronic resources is not feasible for alumni or community members at this time.
However, open access databases and journals are freely available to anyone online. Browse the list of Free/Open Access Databases or use the library catalog to search for your topic and filter the results to show only "Open Access".
FHSU alumni and community members are not eligible to request materials through interlibrary loan at Forsyth Library. It is recommended that you request materials through your local public library's interlibrary loan program.
Special Collections curates and provides access to unique materials around the themes of Classic Children's Literature, Ethnic Studies (local history), Great Plains Research, Military History, Rare Books, and University Archives (university history).
To use the Special Collections and Archives, you can:
-
Search the Forsyth Library Catalog. Begin by searching keywords for your research topic. From the results list, use the right sidebar to filter results under the “Location” heading to show only the locations with the prefix “Special Collections.”
-
Browse the Finding Aids for select collections in both Special Collections and Archives, providing overviews of the collections' content from box to folder level.
-
View and download the digitized primary source materials in the FHSU Scholars Repository under "Archives Online" or Special Collections".
-
Schedule an appointment with Special Collections and Archives staff to view the physical materials.
Spaces & Technology
The library has a variety of spaces available for public use. Because priority is given to FHSU faculty, staff, and students, alumni and community members are not eligible to make room reservations at this time but may use the spaces when they are not reserved by others.
The Makerspace, a partner of Forsyth Library, is open to the campus and the community providing a space and tools to fix or create anything imaginable. The Makerspace has 3D printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, and a laser cutting and engraving machine among other tools.
The public computers in Forsyth Library require a either TigerNetID or guest login. The computers will be designated as either a TigerNetID computer or a Guest computer with color-coded signs. Request a guest login at the Learning Commons Desk to login.
Color and black and white printing, copying, and scanning is available at any of the TigerPrint stations located in the library. Guests can use TigerPrint by setting up a guest account and adding funds. Faxing services are available at the Learning Commons Desk.
