Library Services for Faculty & Staff
In addition to the electronic library services and resources that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, faculty and staff have access to all of the physical materials and spaces at Forsyth Library in Hays, Kansas.
Using the Library
Faculty and staff have access to all of the physical and electronic resources at Forsyth Library. Use the the library catalog to search. If you sign in while searching, you can also place physical materials on hold to pick up at the lockers located in the lobby.
While the library catalog retrieves search results for most of the material within the research databases, you can often create stronger search queries by searching directly within the research databases.
Faculty and staff can create an interlibrary loan account to request electronic or physical materials that Forsyth Library doesn't have available.
Request articles, theses, dissertations, and ebook chapters to be delivered electronically through the interlibrary loan platform or have physical materials such as books, microforms, audio/video materials mailed for pickup at Forsyth Library. FHSU Online faculty located outside of Hays, KS may also request physical materials be mailed to their home.
Special Collections curates and provides access to unique materials around the themes of Classic Children's Literature, Ethnic Studies (local history), Great Plains Research, Military History, Rare Books, and University Archives (university history).

For Your Teaching & Learning
Library instruction is a beneficial supplement to your course to teach students how to use the library and learn essential skills needed to successfully complete research-based assignments and projects. Use the Instruction Request form to describe your needs. Below are some of the many options for incorporating library instruction:
- Asynchronous – Collaborate with librarians to have videos, course guides, tutorials, or Blackboard modules created for reinforcing research practices and building information literacy skills.
- Synchronous – Schedule an instruction session in-person or via zoom to have a librarian visit with your students in real time.
Several tutorials have been created to help teach research and information literacy skills to students from anywhere in the world. These can easily be integrated into Blackboard courses or sent directly to students.
- The Subject & Course Guides provide time-saving tips when doing research-related assignments. They often feature a list of recommended resources and research advice that are specific to a subject area or the assignment for a specific course.
- Library tutorials are quick instructional tools to learn about the library, how to use Forsyth Library specifically, how to build research skills, and how to do common academic writing and citing practices.
- Interactive APA citation games guide students through the citation process and several practice examples. At the end of the tutorial, students receive a certificate of completion to allow for simple grading.
Need a different tutorial? Want a custom guide created for your program or your course? Contact your liaison to have a tutorial or guide created and customized to fit your needs.
