English Student Resources
Take your knowledge and skills out of the classroom and enhance your college experience.
Student organizations sponsored by English Programs are among the many opportunities you have to develop leadership skills and connect with your community. The Center for Student Involvement is your go-to campus resource for getting involved. Other options include service projects, fundraisers, and social events.
Sigma Tau Delta
Become a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English student society at FHSU. Promote interest in literature and writing, encourage discussion, and sponsor activities related to the written arts. We alternate membership meetings with social gatherings, movie nights, and literary events like open mic nights.
Our chapter, Rho Psi, provides opportunities for service, leadership, and academic recognition. We're active on the national and international levels, attending the Sigma Tau Delta convention each year. You don't have to be eligible for induction to the honor society yet or an English major to be a local member. Any student interested in the mission of our organization is welcome to participate in all of our activities on campus and even to attend the national convention.
We're an official affiliate chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, though, so eligible students can be inducted into that organization. You must have a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in six hours of English courses beyond ENG 101 and 102. Benefits include opportunities for scholarships, presentations at the annual convention, and local and national leadership roles.

Lines from the Middle of Nowhere
In 1989, FHSU students and faculty created the literary and arts journal Lines from the Middle of Nowhere. It showcases the talents of our students and has won national and international awards. If you'd like to see this year's edition, visit our Publications page. Why not get involved as a part of the editorial board? Or you can polish your work and submit it for consideration. The deadline for submissions is in spring each year (see the forms for specific dates). Contact Dr. Lexey Bartlett for more information.
Center for Student Involvement
English majors are a valuable part of many campus-wide organizations, like Tigers in Service, University Activities Board, and the Student Government Association. For more information about the organizations and clubs you could belong to at FHSU, visit the Center for Student Involvement.
