KGA Institute 2019
GIS & Mapping in the Classroom
The Kansas Geographic Alliance (KGA) will be hosted a summer geography institute emphasizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) July 22-26, 2019 at Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS.
The institute covere the basic operations of ArcMap utilizing existing GIS internet resources, creation of maps with GIS and ESRI Story Maps, and an understanding of basic cartography design principles. Participating teachers learned how to integrate GIS mapping into individual course curriculum, methods of utilizing Story Maps as learning resources, and received guided assistance in creation of lesson plans using GIS and Story Maps to address Kansas standards in Geography/Social Studies.
Check out the institute photo album to see participants in action.
Participants created and produced GIS instructional videos to help educate colleagues on the use of these systems and for use in classrooms by fellow teachers. You are welcome to use the videos below as resources for yourself and/or your classroom.
