Chair Placements
Chair placements will be held to determine what large and small ensemble you will be placed in. Students are asked to prepare a scale of their choice demonstrating their full range and 2 minutes of a prepared solo, etude, or ensemble piece. Sightreading may also be asked.
Chair placements are held on the first day of camp.
Middle School Chair Placements are for any student entering grades 6-8 in the Fall.
Woodwinds and Brass
- Major scale of your choice demonstrating range (except percussionists)
- Prepared piece of your choice, 2 minutes (solo, etude, ensemble piece)
- Sight Reading may be asked
Percussion
- Major scale of your choice demonstrating range (except percussionists)
- Prepared piece of your choice, 2 minutes (solo, etude, ensemble piece)
- Sight Reading may be asked
Jazz
- Materials will be provided at the audition
Strings
- 1 solo or orchestral excerpt (any)
- 1 major scale (any)
- Sightreading may be asked
High School Chair Placements are for any student entering grades 9-12 in the Fall or who have recently graduated high school (grade 13).

Honors Recital application requirements
Applicants must send a recorded MP3 file of their piece by June 1st to be considered for the HPMC Honor Student Recital.
