Fort Hays State University/ Washburn Law Law Early Admission Program (LEAP)
About LEAP
The FHSU/Washburn Law partnership, LEAP, allows outstanding undergraduates early entry into law school by matriculating into Washburn Law on a 3+3 or 3½+3 year track. LEAP allows students to start law school during their “senior” year of college and use those law school courses to fulfill degree requirements to complete their bachelor’s degree, as well as toward their first-year law school degree requirements.
LEAP Admission Requirements:
Due to the advanced planning required for the program, LEAP is ideal for incoming freshmen and transfer students, but students may apply later in their undergraduate careers.
- High school grade-point average of 3.5/4.0.
- ACT score of 28 or higher.
- Successful LEAP application, submitted to the FHSU Director of Pre-Law/Legal Studies.
LEAP Completion Requirements:
- Maintain a 3.0 undergraduate grade point average.
- Take a diagnostic LSAT (Law School Admission Test) each semester.
- Complete an application to Washburn Law by the deadlines for the semester of intended registration, and
- Earn admission to Washburn Law as determined by its admission requirements and process, including the mandated character and fitness review that is necessary for admission to both law school and the bar exam.
Additional FHSU requirements :
- Complete all FHSU major requirements.
- Complete all FHSU general education program requirements.
Earn enough total undergraduate credit hours so that the credits earned at Washburn Law will be sufficient to complete the FHSU bachelor’s degree.
LEAP Highlights
- Reduce the amount of time and cost necessary to complete both undergraduate and law degrees.
- Develop mentoring relationships with Washburn Law faculty and staff, as well as attorneys and judges.
- Participate in activities designed to demonstrate critical thinking, legal analysis, technical writing, and oral communication skills and competencies essential to law school success.
