Now that you’re officially a Tiger, it is time you join our Tiger Gear on Friday ritual. Every Friday, all campus employees and students are encouraged to dress casually and sport their Tiger gear around campus and town. There are many benefits to participating in this activity, including student discounts around town in several Fort Hays supporting businesses.
Though one day a week of discounts doesn’t seem like much, when you are a college student living away from home, every penny counts. On average, students spend around $670 a month on going out to eat and buying groceries. Most days are low spending, but there are days when you need groceries, your friends want to go out to eat dinner, and you make a 9:45 p.m. ice cream run. A few days of rash decisions like these can cause a significant increase in your monthly spending and a decrease in your ability to save and pay off debts in the future.
If Tiger students wait until Friday of each week to hit downtown for some food and shopping, they will be saving more than they realize on a reoccurring basis. This opportunity can lead to Fort Hays students using this remaining money to begin a budget, begin saving, begin investing, or begin paying off some of that college debt.
